Guides for planning a shoot, from reference to shoot day.
Practical guides for creatives planning a shoot: turning a moodboard into a shot list, and getting the client's approval before the day.
How to turn a moodboard into a shot list
Give every reference on the moodboard a job, group them by scene, then write one shot per reference with its size, lens and who's in it. The moodboard says how it should look; the shot list says how you'll get it.
How to get client approval before the shoot
Send the client one place to review the moodboard, the brief and the shot list, ask for a clear yes on each, and keep a copy of exactly what they approved. Then any change after sign-off is visible before the day, not after it.
Free shot list template
Download a shot list for a commercial, a product shoot, a content day, a music video or a photoshoot, with the columns crews use and a worked example for each. Free, no sign-up.
Plan the next shoot in one place, not across ten apps.
New commercial projects open with Brief, Creative Direction, Moodboard, Shot List, and Client Review already in place.
